Auberge Nicolas Flamel - Paris (3er)

Most Harry Potter fans are familiar with the name
Nicolas Flamel.  He was the creator of the Sorcerer’s Stone in the popular story
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Few, however, are aware that Nicolas Flamel was a
real person with a fascinating and legendary
history.

Nicolas Flamel was the most famous and accomplished
Alchemist in [...]

The Influence of Food in Media

Just the other night, one of my favorite movies aired on television:
Tortilla Soup.  I take immense pleasure in the artful cinematography of the food, and celebration of fine Mexican cuisine.  The casting was flawless (
Hector Elizondo,
Rachel Welch, et al), and the acting sublime.  Chemistry extraordinaire, a fantastic soundtrack, and a marvelous story to [...]

Chocolate Bread Pudding with Chocolate Chips

This bread pudding is soft and moist and beautifully chocolaty.  Reminiscent of a chocolate souffle.

Served warm, the whipped cream melts and puddles at the bottom of the dish.  Pure heaven!
I adapted
this recipe, which was published in
Bon Appetit, February 2001 (from
Dearstyne’s Bistro, Waxhaw, NC), by increasing the quantity of custard (and chocolate) and [...]

Dinner at Orson, San Francisco

I must confess… The real title of this post should be “My Massively Bangin’ Girl Crush on
ELIZABETH
FALKNER,” rather than just dinner at
Orson.

Cocktails:  Passionista & Daquiri
We were made aware within minutes of being seated that “
Liz” was indeed in the house, and that the tasting menu she was preparing was highly recommended.  Well… [...]

Le Louvre Courtyard at Dusk, Paris (1er)

The precious moments that make up the time of day that is dusk, are the most magical of all to me. I cherish every hue that caresses the sky from the pale pink glow of sunset to the deep midnight blue that blankets the sky as the day finally submits to nightfall’s conquest.  So softly [...]

Pink Roses & Rose Petal Jelly

Last night my hunny surprised me with these. Aren’t they lovely?  I love pink roses.
He said it was to thank me for creating a fantastic Thanksgiving.  That works for me.  It is nice to be appreciated after all that hard work.
The pretty pink posies and the sweet kisses that accompanied them, inspired me to break [...]

Shepherd’s Pie…. Leftovers Anyone?

Every year I make a TON of mashed potatoes at
Thanksgiving, because my teenage daughter is a starch junkie and mashed potatoes are her favorite. This year she spent Thanksgiving with a friend’s family in Las Vegas, but the habit of making enough potatoes to feed an army remained. And, without her here [...]

Scenes from Thanksgiving

Our Thanksgiving was small and humble this year.  Since Tony and I do not have family in the area, we invited a couple of good friends and their toddler that are in the same boat.  With my kiddo out-of-town, it was an intimate party of five.

More after the jump.
